Service to the community is a hallmark of our organization
and helps distinguish us from many other sports leagues. As one
of the largest GLBT sports organizations in New England, FLAG
Flag Football recognizes that many individuals have come before
us and have supported and assisted our efforts. We are giving
back to the community that, through its strength and sheer determination,
has inspired our members to truly play with pride.
Through 2010-2011, it is our goal to coordinate two or three
volunteer opportunities per month for GLBT based organizations.
Opportunities last only a few hours, are a perfect team activity,
and a great way to meet an entirely new group of athletes. Please
review the opportunities below and do one of two things: volunteer
with us or pass the word along to help promote our initiatives.
For more information contact Director of Community Affairs and
Outreach Michael Duffy.
We hope to see you out on the field, around town and volunteering
in the community!
2010 Volunteer Opportunities:
• Boston Living Center: (1st Monday of the month). We
are looking for 4-5 volunteers from 5:30-7:30pm to either work
on the food line, help in the kitchen, or wait tables to a crowd
of approximately 100 clients. The Boston Living Center is located
on 29 Stanhope St in the South End and is easily accessible
by the Green Line (Copley) and the Orange Line (Back Bay).
• Community Servings: (3rd Wednesday of the month). Community
Servings provides free home delivered meals to over 850 individuals
and families. They design meals that meet the complex dietary
requirements of people coping with a devastating illness who
are unable to cook for themselves. This volunteer activity will
be perfect for a team project since we will need 15 volunteers
each month to help prepare food for the community. Community
Servings is located at 18 Marbury Terrace in Jamaica Plain and
is accessible on the Orange Line (Stony Brook Station).
